Can Your Mac Run macOS Sequoia? Check This Compatibility List

Check if your Mac gets the green light from Apple to receive macOS Sequoia.

Apple plans to roll out the next iteration of macOS, macOS Sequoia, to the general public in fall 2024. But is your Mac ready to run it? Make sure your machine is compatible before you get excited for what this update brings.

Mac Models That Support macOS Sequoia

If your Mac is powered by Apple silicon, you don’t have to worry about compatibility with the latest release. But that doesn’t mean Apple has left Intel Macs behind; macOS Sequoia supports some older models as well. Here’s the full list of compatible Macs:

  • MacBook Air (2020 and later)
  • MacBook Pro (2018 and later)
  • iMac (2019 and later)
  • Mac mini (2018 and later)
  • Mac Studio
  • iMac Pro
  • Mac Pro (2019 and later)

Note that Apple introduced the first Mac with Apple silicon in late 2020; all the models that came before it packed Intel chips. If you’re not sure which model you have, you can find your Mac’s model year by clicking Apple menu > About This Mac from the macOS menu bar.

Even if your Mac in this compatibility list, note that you’ll need an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) to access all the macOS Sequoia features Apple announced at WWDC 2024. To be more specific, Apple Intelligence features that stole the limelight at WWDC require a Mac with the M1 chip or newer. Fortunately, one of the standout features of macOS Sequoia—iPhone Mirroring—will also be available on supported Intel-powered Macs with the T2 security chip. The only model in this list that doesn’t have the T2 chip is the 2019 iMac.

If your Mac supports macOS Sequoia but you don’t want to wait till fall 2024 for the public release, you can install the macOS Sequoia beta right now. But keep in mind that Apple Intelligence and features like iPhone Mirroring and AI-powered Siri aren’t available in this initial build. You may also encounter bugs and stability issues while using beta firmware.
